"There you are"

Got inspired by a scene from somewhere in the middle of the Game of Thrones novels.  I can't even remember which characters these were...but it was some castle in the south with some doomed ladies.  And disclaimer: I wasn't trying to be accurate, I just liked the idea of a someone in the bed waiting for you.

Anyway, here it is.  I'm sure I'll tweak it some more.

Just having some fun with personal stuff.

I woke up one day needing to draw a baby doll nighty and this is what happened.

Here are a few shots in progress too.  I'll try to add more later if there's interest.

Here are some more in-progress shots.  Roughly in order I think.  I was having a lot of trouble with the arms and couldn't find a face that I liked.

As you can see the final ruffly baby doll was a last minute addition, as was the text.

And here are some alternate colors with the nipples blocked out for Facebook.

Rosie Revisiter

This was for Mike Malak's book contest on WWII pinups.

Still working through the iterations, as always...

The rough idea:

The first full sketch:
Starting to put in the flats and a few details:
A closeup:

Full figure flats and rendering:
Almost done now, working on layout.

Although I resisted at first, i ultimately decided to go with more "normal" proportions.  See if you can spot what changed (other than color of the background):

2011-07-15: One more minor revision with a slightly larger screen size.

2012-02-26: Here's the final version that'll go to the publisher.  A closeup of her face, slightly adjusted.

Supergirl Revisited

For the two of you out there who like to see process...

Here's the previous state:

And here's the "final" state...at least until I find something else I want to change...

Floride

This is a commission piece for massifesto.deviantart.com.

She's supposed to be an old woman villain with powers to transform herself, except for her hair and hands. To help sell that, I went with a background that was fuzzy to try to convey the sense in which you might be stumbling through the woods towards her, under her spell.

I just posted some information about my Prints

Re-muddied

More proof that I cannot leave well enough alone...I was never quite satisfied with the face on the Muddy Pig Nipples piece, so here it is another take from scratch.  This one's a little more realistic.  Perhaps too realistic...

And one more update.

Mermaid Final Yet Again

The lighting on her face was just too dark, so I brightened it.  I also fixed spots around her shoulders and arms and the lighting on her torso.

And now it's a bigger file with less compression.

Mermaid Final?

I think I'm finally done.  Gonna let it sit a few days to see.

The face and neck area were all kinds of screwy, which I could not see for the life of me before.  I think they're finally fixed.

Mermaid Commission Progress 4

Almost done, I think.

The colors need a bit of tweaking, but overall, I'm much happier with this version.

Rosie

I got inspired by this photo by WildPlaces at DeviantArt.

Sometimes I see a photo and I feel like I have no choice but to draw it.  Such was the case here.

Here's a first sketch:

And a first pass at color:

And a second pass.  Done?

More to come...

Illustrations at FoxyFighter.com

Debbie Chan at Foxy Fighter commissioned me to do 3 pieces for a story that we both came up with about a catfight at a costume party.  She just posted it on her brand spanking new-ly revised site: http://www.foxyfighter.com/

It's a pay site so you'll have to join up to read the full story, but here's a peek at one of the drawings.  The other two are well...let's say they offer penetrating insight into the characters.

Here's a peek at the tame one:

Mermaid Commission Progress 2

Haven't had much time to paint these days.

Here's some progress on the mermaid piece.  I like the figure better.  The flow feels better.  The overall color balance is looking decent as well, I think.

Now it's refining all the details.

I was inspired by all the pastel work that the Pixar artists did on Finding Nemo storyboards, so I thought I'd try a similar approach.

Supergirl Color Pass

A first pass at the colors for SuperGirl.

Mermaid Commission Progress

Here's a piece I just started.  Getting a little stuck with the coloring, but more important the figure feels too stiff.

Take 3

Back to the old face.  Much better I think!  The key was to rotate the eyes and shave off some of the jaw.  Took me forever to realize that though.

Text is next.

Take 2

I really did not like the face on the last one.  So here's another attempt.  Instead of trying to lift her face for the upturned nose, I'm just trying a straight on shot.

Muddy Pig Nipples

Here's a first pass at a piece for a client's rock band.
And here are the rough ideas.
